Dominate the world through diplomatic finesse, cultural domination and military prowess. It gives you the opportunity to enjoy unmatched strategic gameplay alone or against players from around the world.

A complete or Gold edition of of the game includes the original game as well as the Conquests and Play the World expansion packs. ScreenShots from the Game:. Old Links and Patches. We are keeping some of the old links and patches to make sure you can revert back to old version if you have problem with the latest version.

This was where I jumped on the bandwagon and as a result, it remains a firm favorite of mine to this day. I would say that it is a safe bet by now that most gamers have at the very least heard of this game. The question is, is this game worth playing over any of the ones that came before it? Well, I recently fired this bad boy back up to see just how well it held up and after a solid weekend of playing, it holds up very well.

As is the case with all the games in the series, your goal in Civilization 3 is to rise from the stone age all the way up to the modern age. It is a goal that is pretty much standard in all the Civilization games along with many other games of this style.

The thing is, it never gets old and that is certainly the case here too. It is up to you where your civilization will start, but the game does give you a fair few choices such as America, England, Germany, and so on.

I always like to pick England for some reason, but it is worth changing things up If you play through the game multiple times as there are differences depending on where you start. I do have to state that as I write this the game is the better part of 20 years old. They have released a newer version on Steam, but even so. Civilization 3 is a game that does show its age in terms of the presentation.

The historical figures are cool and I like how you can zoom in and out of the map. However, the whole game is not exactly what you would call easy on the eyes if I am being brutally honest.

Thankfully, Civ 3 is a game that is not trying to get by on its looks. It is fair to say that even those who have a passing interest in this genre know the basics of what games like this are about.

It is the gameplay that makes this and the other games in the series so addictive. You always need to be moving your civilization forward and how you do this is pretty grand. You need to build buildings, keep your people happy, deal with neighboring civilizations, go to war, make trades, and improve so much that you progress through the ages. Entering a new era after you have done the right amount of research is always a very exciting aspect of the game. Going to war is a bit bland if I am being honest, but it is something that has to be done.

Winning is tough as the AI in this game is freaking brutal and makes very few mistakes or mistimed moves. I am always going to be partial to Civilization 3 as it was the game that introduced me to the series. However, as good as this game is and as much as I enjoyed my recent playthrough of it.

In fact, the game begins in exactly the same way with a settler looking for the optimal site to establish the seat of power. Any veteran player of the series will recognize the playing field and gameplay, thus diving into the action has rarely been easier. Little nuances crop up early, such as the concept of cultural boundaries, winning conditions, and Small Wonders -- features that will make even the most experienced leader pause a moment before making his or her next move.

Most noticeable is the notion of cultural boundaries. Each city now extends its influence based on the town improvements. Enemy cities can even overthrow their leadership and join your side, if they are in complete awe of your cultural advancements.

Generating overwhelming global influence results in a cultural victory, one of the new ways to win. Other winning conditions include military victory, UN voting, controlling a majority of the world's population and land, as well as completing the ever popular spaceship to Alpha Centauri, a goal from previous games that inspired the Meier creation Alpha Centauri.

To accomplish these goals, a few new items are available for research in the tech tree and Small Wonders can be created. The latter work like Great Wonders by conferring certain advantages on a civilization, but every civilization can build the same Small Wonder; thus expect both Americans and Russians to build a Pentagon, for example.

The terrain and units have been updated and the cityscape view has a fresh look, but it's still the same 2D maps of old. Everything happens on the surface of the planet or in the oceans with no subterranean lands to manage. In addition, there are unnecessary technologies that, however, provide beneficial rewards that are often necessary for the good management of an empire or allow civilization to install a new government.

Technologies can also be traded to and from other civilizations in exchange for gold, resources, technologies, workers, and cities. Citizens are the people who work in the city. There are four types: workers, artists, tax collectors, and academics. If there are more citizens in the city than the spaces available for work, the additional citizens are automatically converted.

The second expansion, Conquests, adds two new types of citizens to the Civilization III : Police reduces corruption and Civil Engineers increases construction and large production.

Culture is a characteristic that was not present in previous installments of the franchise. Each city has a cultural classification, which is the influence of the city on the local terrain. They may be frontier civilizations, leading their culture to compete for terrestrial classification. Therefore, culture can be a means of peaceful invasion. Extract 2- Install 3- Play!
